Barcelona have confirmed highly-rated young midfielder Carles Alena has penned a new three-year deal at the club with a €75m release clause.
The 19-year-old had been heavily linked with a move to English club Tottenham Hotspur this summer but he is now set to feature more in Barca’s first-team squad.
Handed his first team debut by former Coach Luis Enrique in last season’s Copa Del Rey, the Spaniard scored Barca’s equaliser in a 1-1 draw at Hercules and featured in three La Liga fixtures in April.
Marca and El Mundo Deportivo add the new deal includes a further two-year option which can be exercised should he feature in a set number of first-team games.
His previous release clause was a mere €3m but after starring in Barcelona B’s promotion to La Liga 123, he has been handed a greatly improved deal.
