Lopetegui warns against ‘euphoria’

Julen Lopetegui has warned his Spain team to ‘guard against complacency and euphoria’ ahead of their clash with Liechtenstein on Tuesday.

A 3-0 victory over Italy on Saturday put La Roja in the driving seat for automatic qualification from the group but the Coach insists he is only thinking about the next game.

“We must guard against euphoria as we have not yet qualified,” Lopetegui is quoted by Diario AS in his pre-match press conference.

“Hope and excitement is not a bad thing but we must aim to secure three points in Liechtenstein and guard against complacency.

“We’re not thinking of the World Cup or Saturday’s game against Italy, that is in the past now and we must focus solely on the game in Liechtenstein.

“Our starting line-up? We have not yet decided on anything, any of the 25 players could start but we will select a team who we believe gives us the best chance of winning of course.

“Nothing Isco does surprises me…he has played with us before when not starting at Madrid because his talent is unquestionable but now he will only continue to improve.”
