Lopetegui wants Spain stadium

Spain Coach Julen Lopetegui has called for the nation to have a ‘healthy conversation’ regarding a permanent home for La Roja.

The former Porto boss hailed the impact of the home fans at Real Madrid’s Santiago Bernabeu in Saturday night’s win over Italy and has called for a permanent stadium similar to England and France.

“Saturday night was a wonderful performance befitting of a wonderful arena and crowd,” Lopetegui explained on Radio Marca.

“It was a fantastic night for us and the fans and stadium definitely helped, and maybe made our opponents a little less confident.

“For instance, when you go to play at Wembley against England, you feel envy – a healthy envy but one were you hope for a stadium which gives you a push when you are in difficult moments in the match.

“A permanent home ground for Spain? It is a healthy conversation. As a Coach, you look to Wembley and Stade de France as a home for international teams that should be aspired to.”
