Villa: Spain recall a dream

David Villa admits being recalled by Spain is “a dream” and that “I’ve dreamt about it for a long time.”

Villa was selected for Spain’s upcoming 2018 World Cup qualifiers against Italy and Liechtenstein, three years after the striker’s last appearance for La Roja.

“I have no words, the truth is that I’m very happy, I’m living a dream, I can’t describe it,” he said after New York City FC’s 1-1 draw with New York Red Bulls.

“Now I want to go home to rest and be with the family. I enjoy thinking about [Spain’s training complex in] Las Rozas. I’ve dreamt about returning for a long time.”

The 35-year-old is Spain’s all-time top scorer with 59 goals in 97 caps and spearheaded his country’s triumphs at Euro 2008, World Cup 2010 and Euro 2012.
