Alaves defender Alexis Ruano has taken to social media to apologise for the role he played in the abandoning of a friendly match against Athletic Bilbao.
Alexis was dismissed in a contentious friendly match, which was abandoned early and grabbed the referee by the face after the red card was brandished.
However, the 32-year-old has since taken to his instagram feed to write: "After what happened on Saturday in Lasearre, I want to apologise to the referee and to the fans of Alaves, Athletic and the football world in general.
“I regret it and I will not look to make any excuses. I should never have done it: it is wrong and my desire is to recognise it.
“What was to be a friendly before starting the season ended up being a tasteless appetiser for all lovers of the sport.
“We have to be an example at the end of the day and I commit to being more so in the future.”
