Inigo Martinez has returned to Real Sociedad in the midst of speculation he will join Barcelona this week in a €32m deal.
The 26-year-old has been unavailable for pre-season training due to a muscular injury but hit out at the club’s social media team for not including him in images along with his teammates.
The central defender replied: Martinez replied: "I believe I trained" in response to a post from La Real’s official account.
Widespread reports in Spain suggest the Blaugrana are set to trigger his €32 million release clause this week although the Basque club are reportedly unwilling to facilitate any negotiations below this.
The central defender has amassed 193 La Liga appearances for the Basques since his debut in 2011 and his current deal at the club runs until June 2021.
Part of Spain’s Under-21 European Championship winning side in 2013, Martinez has gone on to be capped four times at senior level for La Roja.
The Blaugrana are set to reinvest the €222m they will receive from Neymar’s impending world record transfer to Paris Saint-Germain and reinforcing the defence is on the agenda.
