Fernando Torres admits he is hoping to end his playing career at Atletico Madrid, where “I’m home.”
Torres has been back at Atleti since January 2015 and recently renewed his contract with the club for another year, but the former Spain striker is now reaching his nadir at the top level, having turned 33 in March.
“I’m home,” he told the official TV channel of Mexican side Toluca, who drew 0-0 with Los Colchoneros midweek.
“I returned after eight years to Atletico, where I feel really happy, and my desire is to play for Atletico, retire at Atletico, win trophies with them and help the club remain one of the best in Europe.
“For now, there’s only this option [of staying at Atleti] in my head.”
