Betis set for Celta’s Diaz

Celta Vigo midfielder Marcelo Diaz looks set to join Real Betis this summer after Valencia reportedly rejected an opportunity to sign the player.

The Chilean midfielder is hopeful of leaving Balaidos this summer but Los Che rejected a chance to sign him, with Betis now in pole position, according to Estadio Deportivo.

"With Marcelo Diaz we will look for the best for the parties,” said Celta sporting director Filipe Minambres on Monday.

“He wants to play and to feel important. If he wants to leave he will be go and we will work on his possible exit but today there is nothing.

“I've spoken with (Lorenzo) Serra Ferrer (Betis vice president).”

Los Verdiblancos have switched midfield targets after Marko Pasalic reportedly opted to sign for Lazio, while the club are said to have no interest in Aston Villa’s Jordan Veretout despite media speculation.

30-year-old Diaz signed for Celta from Hamburg in 2015 and has made 40 La Liga appearances.
