Modric: Leaving RM a ‘step down’

Luka Modric has told teammates James Rodriguez and Alvaro Morata they would be making a ‘step down’ in their careers should they leave Real Madrid.

The Croatian international’s comments come following fresh media reports the two could be on their way out of the Bernabeu this summer, with Manchester United, Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain linked to the players.

"For sure it is not an easy decision to leave Madrid," Modric told an interview with Marca.

"When you leave here, it is never the same. Now you are at the best club in the world, for sure, so you can only take a step down.

"Each individual will have their reasons, but I will do everything possible to stay here, even though things can change quickly in football."

Madrid look set to sign Dani Ceballos from Real Betis on a six-year deal, which will make competitions for places at the club even more competitive.
