Fernando Torres claims Atletico Madrid have what it takes to win “everything” next season after signing a new contract with the club.
Torres commited to Atleti for one more season earlier in the week, and the veteran striker says he can “only see this year being better than the previous one.”
“I’d like to play here forever and do so at a good level at the club where I want to be and where I’m motivated and enjoying myself,” he said in his first interview since putting pen to paper.
“Every detail is important, playing at the Calderon for the last time, when each match had many memories and sensations that hadn’t been felt by this club or others.
“New stadium? I want to start this new era now, I want the new stadium to be filled and us to maintain our identity.
“Staying for another season is exciting because you can’t always be where you want to be, and I have that chance for another year.
“I want to face it as if it was my last. Hopefully many more will follow, but it’s the only way to enjoy it.
“It’s a season of changes, with difficulties for the transfer ban but also the same enthusiasm and desire. The team have proven to be strong.
“We’ve shown that we can fight for everything, [regularly] reaching the Champions League semi-finals.
“We’ll be together for one more year and our results can be better and more positive.
“I’m dreaming big and positively, there are some very young players and I can only see this year better than the previous one.”
