Segura appointed Barca general manager

Barcelona have appointed Josep Segura to their newly-formed role of general manager as they attempt to restructure the running of the club.

Segura has been in charge of the transfer activity for Barca’s B team and their Under 19 side, although he will now play a leading role in the first team’s transfer business too.

"Josep Segura has been named sporting manager of the football area of Barcelona. With the creation of this new role, he will be the head of the whole football area,” read a Barca statement of the 56-year-old’s appointment.

“Robert Fernandez is still the technical secretary of the first team with the same responsibilities he has had until now.

“Licensed in physical education, Josep Segura arrived in 1997 at Barcelona as coach of Juvenil A and later took other roles in the club like head of high performance and scouting, until 2005.

“His second era at the club started in 2015 and until now was technical secretary of football at youth level. The new structure in the football area at Barcelona will be published in the coming days.”
