Sporting director Pep Segura leaving Barcelona

Sporting director Pep Segura will leave Barcelona imminently with his position set to go to Eric Abidal, according to Diario Sport.

Segura (pictured right, alongside former vice-president Jordi Mestre, left, and Abidal, centre) has “total agreement between himself and the club for the termination of their contract.”

The shake-up in the boardroom is set to see former defender and France international Abidal replace Segura in the role, while former Barca striker Patrick Kluivert will join the board.

President Josep Maria Bartomeu, who is currently with the club on a pre-season tour in Japan, has given his ok for the club to sanction Segura’s release, with everything now official apart from a signature.

The news follows on from the recent exit of the club’s former vice-president Jordi Mestre, who was a keen supporter of Segura.

The Catalan press have been vehement in their criticism of the work of Segura, with Mestre said to be the individual to offer the strongest defence but both men are now on their way out of the Camp Nou.
