Amath Diedhiou could be given a shot to impress Diego Simeone in Atletico Madrid’s pre-season after his starring season at Tenerife, say reports in Spain.
The Senegalese forward starred in La Liga 123 for the Los Blanquiazules, hitting 12 goals in 34 appearances as the club fell one match short of promotion to the top flight.
Marca report Atleti’s original plan had been to immediately farm out Amath once he returned from his spell at Tenerife but his form over the course of the past year has forced a rethink.
This is coupled with Atletico’s failure to overturn their registration ban, ensuring no new players can join the squad until January 2018 while Luciano Vietto may yet be sold.
Espanyol and Alaves are both monitoring Amath’s situation and he looks certain to be playing in the top flight of Spanish football next season.
