Morata hopes for James stay

Spain hero Alvaro Morata hopes he and James Rodriguez “will be teammates next season”, preferably at Real Madrid.

Morata was speaking after Spain’s friendly with Colombia on Wednesday, in which he scored a late header to rescue La Roja a 2-2 draw and faced Madrid teammate James.

“Who knows, maybe we’ll be teammates next season,” the striker told Telecinco.

“Hopefully he doesn’t [leave] because I love him dearly. He’s a great player.

“You always want to play for Spain, and unless I have a serious injury, I always want to be here.

“The match? We escaped, but it’s a good sign because it could’ve easily been a last-16 or quarter-final tie at a World Cup and we responded. We were two teams with great pride.”
