Eibar ‘close’ to Argentine international

Eibar are close to signing Tijuana midfielder Guido Rodriguez who has just been called up to the Argentina national squad, say reports.

According to Marca, the Basque club are in ‘very advanced talks’ with the 23-year-old midfielder, who joined the Mexican club from River Plate in 2016.

The report states the player, who usually plays in a deep-lying midfield role, is keen for a move to European football after having earned rave reviews in his first full season in Liga MX.

Tijuana are said to have agreed a deal with league rivals America but Rodriguez has told all parties involved he does not wish for that move to go through, with a deadline of Wednesday for a final decision.

Marca expects the midfielder, called up by Jorge Sampaoli to his first ever Argentine national squad, will choose to join Eibar imminently while Dani Garcia is set to leave the club.
