Newcastle in €10m Lejeune deal?

Newcastle United are reportedly set to meet the €10m release clause of Eibar centre-back Florian Lejeune.

According to Marca, Lejeune seems headed for the Premier League after “shining with his own light” for Eibar last season.

The newspaper explains Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal have been keeping tabs on the 26-year-old, but it is Rafa Benitez’s Magpies who are leading the pack.

This is because they have already offered the ex-France Under-20 international a four-year contract, worth double his salary at Eibar.

Lejeune was bought by Manchester City in 2015, but he was loaned back to Girona, where he helped the Catalans reach the Segunda playoffs in his two seasons at the club.

He then joined Eibar for €1.5m last summer and played 34 times in La Liga as Los Armeros finished 10th, their highest-ever League finish.
