Real Sociedad central defender Mikel Gonzalez is set to leave the club at which he has spent his entire career, it has been confirmed.
A product of La Real’s youth academy, has made over 300 appearances across twelve seasons in the first-team at the Anoeta but will leave at the end of the current campaign.
“Mikel has been one of the architects of returning Real to Primera and to European competitions,” read a statement from the Basque club.
“His values are the values of Real Sociedad – he embodies us.
“We wish to thank him for his twenty years at the club throughout our various teams and all of us wish you the very best for the future.”
The news comes less than 24 hours after fellow La Real central defender Raul Navas signed a new deal until 2020 with the club.
Mikel has made only 8 La Liga starts this campaign, falling behind Navas and Inigo Martinez in the pecking order under Eusebio Sacristan.
