Godin handed 3-game league ban

Atletico Madrid defender Diego Godin has been handed a three-match La Liga ban for telling match officials to "put on some glasses".

The Uruguayan was dismissed late on in Atleti’s weekend win over Eibar at the Vicente Calderon and the punishment means he is ruled out of Sunday's trip to Real Betis and then the following weekend's game at home against Athletic Bilbao, which will be Atletico's final game in the Estadio Vicente Calderon along with the first match of next season.

The 31-year-old was booked in the 88th minute for vehemently protesting against the award of a corner before taking the row to the fourth official and making a "put on some glasses" gesture, seeing him dismissed.

According to the official match report from referee David Fernandez Borbalan, he then told officials ‘you are very bad’ as he made his way from the pitch.
