Barcelona’s imploding season has led the club to push for a major overhaul this summer and Javier Mascherano is among the players who could be sold.
Sport claims Mascherano, Arda Turan and Jeremy Mathieu are all on the chopping block as La Blaugrana look like giving up the title to Real Madrid, are on the brink of exiting the Champions League to Juventus in the last eight, and will already have to change Coach as Luis Enrique is stepping down.
Arda would raise a lot of money if he was sold, it’s felt, and isn’t a regular starter anyway, while Mathieu would also be allowed to go.
Mascherano’s leadership qualities are acknowledged but the feeling at Camp Nou is that it is time to make changes and the Argentina international could be looking at his final weeks as a Barca player.
The identity of Enrique’s successor will be crucial to what moves Barca make in the market but Robert Fernandez, as technical secretary, is starting the planning for next season and Sport adds some big names will likely be ushered out of the door.
