Bale a doubt for Bayern?

Gareth Bale is reportedly a doubt for Real Madrid’s Champions League quarter-final second leg against Bayern Munich due to a calf problem.

Bale was replaced an hour into Madrid’s 2-1 win at Bayern on Tuesday, and Marca claims the Welshman suffered “pain in his right calf muscle”.

Consequently, his problems “have not subsided” and Zinedine Zidane “is clear” that he will not risk a player as important as the former Tottenham Hotspur star.

Bale will learn the exact extent of his injury in the next few hours, but the newspaper is adamant he will “certainly not play” against Sporting Gijon on Saturday.

The 27-year-old has endured a stop-start second half to the season, with a three-month ankle layoff soon followed by a two-match ban for a red card.
