Antoine Griezmann has blasted the Spanish FA's Competition Committee for fining him for displaying a shirt wishing his partner a happy birthday.
The 25-year-old lifted up his shirt after opening the scoring in Sunday’s 3-0 win for Atletico Madrid at home to Valencia to unveil the light-hearted message – ‘happy birthday, chubby!’
On Wednesday the French forward was then hit with a €600 fine and retrospective yellow card, prompting Griezmann to take to twitter to vent his grievances.
"A fine and a booking for wishing my wife happy birthday, and three days afterwards," he tweeted out after the punishment was announced, followed by the hashtag #PreocupateDeOtrasCosas – translating as “worry about other things”.
It was assumed the striker would escape any punishment as he did not lift his shirt above his head, however merely revealing the message was enough to land him in hot water.
