Fernando Torres received a rapturous reception from the Atletico Madrid fans on Sunday as he watched his side’s win from the stands.
The former Liverpool and Chelsea striker suffered a head injury scare three days earlier in his side’s 1-1 draw at Deportivo La Coruna but was discharged following observation from doctors and watched Atleti defeat Valencia 3-0 at the Vicente Calderon.
“Great result today, I can't wait to return. Thanks for your infinite affection,” Torres wrote on his instagram account.
A banner in the home end read: "The Calderon loves you – strength Torres!" while they gave the striker a standing ovation when he entered and left the stadium and chanted his name for long periods throughout the match.
The 32-year-old has netted five goals and contributed two assists in 20 league appearances for Los Colchoneros this season and has scored 116 goals in 344 official appearances for the club throughout his career.
