Three former Real Betis players have been formally charged with match fixing by a judge in relation to fixtures at the end of the 2013-14 season.
Antonio Amaya, Jordi Figueras and Xavi Torres are alleged to have been paid €650,000 by former directors of Osasuna, who have also been charged with the offence.
Court documents show the directors paid the trio to help ensure Los Verdiblancos defeated Osasuna’s relegation rivals Valladolid on the penultimate day of the campaign before losing to the El Sadar club the following weekend.
Betis – who had been relegated several weeks in advance – did defeat Valladolid 4-3 before losing 2-1 to Osasuna, but all three were demoted to the Segunda.
The Pamplona side’s former president Miguel Archanco was also among the total of 18 people charged with being involved, although the investigation cleared current Osasuna coach Petar Vasiljevic, a former player.
Judge Fermin Otamendi Zozaya stated Osasuna directors "decided to use money from Club Atletico Osasuna to keep the club at all costs in the first division of the Spanish league, delivering different quantities of cash to players from other teams with the intent of altering the result of the competition."
Osasuna were eventually relegated as Almeria – who they needed to lose on the final day – scraped a scoreless draw with Athletic Bilbao.
Xavi Torres now plays for Sporting Gijon, Figueras is at German club Karlsruher SC and Amaya is at Rayo Vallecano.
