Odegaard joins Heerenveen

Real Madrid youngster Martin Odegaard has joined Eredivisie club Heerenveen on an 18-month loan.

Reports in December had suggested the 18-year-old was set to choose between either Ajax or Heerenveen for a loan move, but the latter confirmed a deal had been agreed on Tuesday before unveiling him to the Dutch Press.

Odegaard made a substitute appearance for Madrid’s senior team in May 2015 and has spent the bulk of his two-year spell at the club playing with the club’s Castilla youth team.

The Norwegian made his first competitive start for Los Blancos in the 6-1 thrashing of lower league side Cultural Leonesa in the Copa Del Rey earlier this season.

A short-term move for the midfielder had alerted several clubs in Europe with Rennes in France also reportedly keen, although their interest cooled lately as Odegaard suggested a preference for a move to Netherlands.
