Malaga linked with Madrid striker

Malaga are being linked with a loan move for Real Madrid forward Mariano when the winter transfer window opens.

A long-term knee injury to striker Charles, which will keep the Brazilian out for the next five months, has forced director of football Francesc Arnau to scour the market for a possible replacement.

Consequently, Los Blanquiazules are casting their eyes towards Mariano, who has hardly had a look-in at the Santiago Bernabeu this term, playing just 13 minutes in the second game of the season against Celta Vigo and scoring in last week’s 7-1 demolition of Cultural Leonesa in the Copa del Rey.

Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane is understood to look favourably at the prospect of sending the Dominican Republic international out on loan, with Eldesmarque reporting that the Costa del Sol outfit have already contacted the player.

Mariano scored 27 league goals with Los Blancos’ second string last season, earning him a place in Zidane’s plans, but is yet to convince the Frenchman he is worthy of a regular first team berth.
