Bale ‘becomes best-paid player’

Gareth Bale has reportedly become the best-paid player in world football, courtesy of his new Real Madrid contract.

According to the Guardian, Bale is line to earn “more than £150m (€166m) over the next six years in salaries and bonuses”.

The newspaper explains the Welshman’s new deal until 2022 is worth £600,000 (€666,000) a week before tax, equivalent to around £350,000 (€388,000) a week after tax and more than £288,000 (€320,000) that teammate Cristiano Ronaldo is said to be earning.

Manchester United and England captain Wayne Rooney had been the world’s best-paid player before Bale, pocketing £300,000 (€333,000) a week.
