Gaya: Valencia needed change

Valencia full-back Jose Luis Gaya has welcomed a change of management at the club, saying that the players and club needed it.

The 21-year-old was speaking ahead of the expected arrival of Italian coach Cesare Prandelli but has seemed to hint that the club's dressing room were not behind previous manager Pako Ayestaran, who was dismissed following four straight league defeats at the start of the campaign.

"We all needed a change and it was beneficial that Voro (interim coach) assumed responsibility," Gaya told Plaza Deportiva.

"The situation was very bad – zero points from four games, and it was important Voro's will to win came in and really helped us.

"For him it was difficult as his role changed from being a coach to manager, for which you need different qualities and a different relationship, but it worked.

"The entire staff is behind him and with two straight wins we are now back on track in the league."
