Las Palmas stand by Araujo

Las Palmas will not terminate the contract of striker Sergio Araujo if he is found guilty of drink-driving.

The 24-year-old Argentine was reportedly stopped by the police in the early hours of Monday morning and refused to take a breathalyser test, while he is now expected to appear in court on Wednesday over the issue.

"Sergio's issue is non-sporting related and it will be for the courts to determine if he has been negligent and the severity of the offences," Las Palmas president Miguel Angel Ramirez told Onda Cero.

"If Araujo is found to have been negligent, we will open internal disciplinary proceedings for that but we are not going to hang him in the town square.

"We are not going to end our contractual agreement with Sergio and we are not going to throw him out of the club."

Los Amarillos coach Quique Setien has also confirmed that he and the club will give Sergio any necessary support.

"He has had an exemplary attitude and that's why we have placed such faith in him," Setien told Radio Marca.

"The only thing we can do is give him a helping hand."
