Raphael Varane has revealed that despite rejecting a move to Manchester United, it was tough to say no Jose Mourinho.
Mourinho brought Varane to the Bernabeu in 2011 from French club Lens, but ultimately the French centre-half opted to stay with Real Madrid and give a vote of confidence in Zinedine Zidane.
"Manchester (United) is a very big club and it is flattering," the 23-year-old told Canal+.
"But as Madrid and I continue to be in the process of my project, I do not even ask the question.
"It is not easy to say no to Jose Mourinho but you have to weigh up the pros and the cons."
The French international was then asked of his relationship with current boss Zidane.
"It was really the trust we share, that support which was important for me," Varane continued.
"When I was reassured on that point, there was no question of it any more."
