Andre Gomes has followed Lionel Messi back to Barcelona after picking up a muscle injury in Portugal’s 5-0 win against Gibraltar on Thursday.
Gomes replaced Joao Mario after an hour but was forced off just 20 minutes later, Coach Fernando Santos confirming post-match that he withdrew the midfielder “as a precaution”, despite the European champions going down to 10 men, having used up all their substitutions.
Marca suggests Gomes suffered a “severe contusion” in his right leg and will now undergo tests to determine the extent of his setback.
