Griezmann apologises for relegation comments

Antoine Griezmann has reportedly apologised to Atletico Madrid for suggesting the club could end up in a relegation battle.

The French forward made the comments immediately after the Rojiblancos’ goalless draw with Leganes last Saturday, claiming the 2014 La Liga champions would face a fight to stay up if they continued to play as they had done.

The 25-year-old was publicly criticised for his outburst on Tuesday by teammate Saul Niguez, who told reporters that Griezmann ‘should think about what he says.’

However, according to media outlet Onda Cero, the former Real Sociedad player has now spoken to Coach Diego Simeone as well as club captain Gabi and Saul himself to recognise the error of his ways.

Atletico have collected just two points from as many matches so far this season, failing to score from open play against newly-promoted sides Alaves and Leganes.
