Antoine Griezmann has warned Atletico Madrid that “we’ll end up fighting relegation” if Saturday’s stalemate with Leganes is repeated.
Griezmann’s return against Leganes was hailed as the missing piece of Atleti’s jigsaw after their opening-day draw with Alaves, yet neither he nor Los Colchoneros were able to break down a second set of La Liga new boys, prompting the forward to issue a wake-up call.
“If we continue like this, we’ll end up fighting relegation,” he told beIN Sports after the game.
“We must wake up because if we don’t then [our fate] will no longer be in our hands.
“We have to keep working hard and start being ourselves.”
