Spain Coach Julen Lopetegui met captain Iker Casillas for lunch in Porto but offering the goalkeeper a role as his assistant.
AS cites Gol TV as reporting the meeting and the proposal from Lopetegui, which has been flatly rejected by the Coach, who on Friday names his first squad as national team trainer.
“It’s science fiction that I offered him to be my assistant. He’s an active player and if I call him up or not will be seen on Friday. Casillas and I are friends. I went to Porto to resolve a private matter and took the chance to eat with him,” Lopetegui told AS, before commenting on the surreptitious picture taken of the pair.
“I don’t know who could have taken that picture but I don’t care. I have too many issues to handle to play 007. I’m not James Bond and it isn’t my job to deal with undercover pictures of me. I have enough to do with the squad on Friday and the affairs of the national team.”
