Gerard Pique regards Barcelona as ‘the best team in the country’ and therefore ‘the team to beat’ this season.
The Catalans landed the title last year, their second in succession, and Pique has told Marca that the aim is to claim all available pieces of silverware, having started with the Supercopa de Espana.
“The goal is to win trophies. It’s true the Champions League is very important because it has more prestige, but the last two years we’ve won La Liga and the Copa del Rey. It’s very important because we have shown we are the best team in the country by far.Two consecutive doubles hasn’t been done often. That means we are the team to beat,” he said.
“The squad for this season is a high level. It’s difficult [to compare past squads] because there are times and situations. I don’t know if this year is the best but I assure you it’s very competitive and a high level.
“We’ll try to win trophies as we have done in the last few years. We’ve done a lot with Luis Enrique. This year is a challenge.”
