Raphael Varane reveals the presence of Zinedine Zidane was one of the reasons he decided to stay at Real Madrid this summer.
Varane had been linked with a move away from Santiago Bernabeu as he faces a continued struggle to dislodge Pepe as Sergio Ramos’ centre-back partner, but confirmed he feels he has the support of the trainer.
“I trust the club and I trust the Coach. I talked with him a lot and he trust me, so it’s one of the reasons I stayed. I made the decision to stay, the right decision. I’ll continue to improve and I want this to be a good season for me and to be at my best,” he said, AS reports.
Varane was forced to miss Euro 2016 in his home country of France and is eager to put the summer disappointment behind him for the new campaign.
“I want to leave the summer behind. It was difficult for me to not play the Euros. I want to leave it behind and look forward, to reach my best,” he added.
