Perez stalling on Depor deal

Lucas Perez’s agent has revealed that his client is refusing to sign a new contract with Deportivo la Coruna just yet.

Perez, with 17 League goals last term, is hoping stories of an imminent move to Barcelona come to fruition before the end of the summer transfer market, especially since the Catalans’ sporting director Robert Fernandez said after the Gamper Trophy clash with Sampdoria this week that a new striker would arrive before the start of the season.

“What happens if two days after signing something happens, someone pays his clause, let’s say for example Barcelona?,” asked his representative Rodrigo Fernandez in quotes reported by La Voz de Galicia.

“I think it would give off a very bad image. For that reason, I think it will be best if we don’t renew anything until the window closes. There will be time later.

“It is impossible to remain focused when there is so much going on and every day Lucas is being linked with a move somewhere else.”

Perez – left out of Depor’s Teresa Herrera Trophy game with Villarreal this week for “technical reasons” – has a release clause of €20m, a fee within Barca’s reach as they seek back-up in attack for Luis Suarez, Lionel Messi and Neymar.
