Barcelona aim to renew Javier Mascherano’s contract this week, before he returns for pre-season training.
Masche is still on holiday after the Copa America and the will of the club is to wrap up a new deal for the defender, Mundo Deportivo reports, with his agent, Walter Tamer, in Barcelona for talks.
The intention is to have the negotiations completed by the end of the week and the conversation is understood to be going well, with Luis Enrique making it a priority that Mascherano’s future is settled.
Mascherano had been mooted as leaving Camp Nou for Juventus earlier in the summer but Barca refused to let him go, and even though the 32-year-old has two years left on his existing contract, there is a resolve to reach a new agreement soon.
