‘Vietto still an Atleti player, but…’

Enrique Cerezo insists Barcelona and Sevilla target Luciano Vietto "is still an Atletico Madrid player" but admits "we also have to see how things develop".

Mundo Deportivo claims Barca have agreed a €22m deal for Vietto, while Jorge Sampaoli is said to be keen on bringing in his fellow Argentine on loan, and although Cerezo denied either to be the case, he hinted at possible movement before the end of August.

"Luciano Vietto is still an Atletico player and so far we haven't decided anything or received an offer from Barcelona," the President said at a film event in Uruguay, reports Marca.

"It's not logical to say that he'll go to Barcelona because we haven't been in contact with them.

"He's an Atletico player and available to [Diego] Simeone. A lot [of the transfer window] remains to discover what the player wants and what he'll do.

"I'm among those who think that players must be at the club they want [to be at].

"Neither is Vietto joining Sevilla on loan. We want him to stay, but we also have to see how things develop. He's a fantastic player with huge potential. I love him.

"[On Diego Godin], he's a wonderful person and an outstanding player, and when a player has those two characteristics, he'll always be loved.

"We worship him at our stadium, and all the clubs want him in the footballing world.

"It means a lot for Atletico to have a defender like Godin, firstly because he's top-class, secondly he's a fantastic person, and thirdly we've achieved some of our greatest successes while he's been at the club."
