Antoine Griezmann concedes he has lost the 2016 Ballon d’Or to Cristiano Ronaldo as his Real Madrid rival “won the most important competitions”.
Griezmann ended Euro 2016 as its top goalscorer with six, three more than Ronaldo, but France’s 1-0 defeat to Portugal on Sunday marked a second lost final to the No 7 in two months for the Atletico Madrid forward.
“The Ballon d’Or? Cristiano has won it,” he said after the final at Stade de France.
“I wanted to win the trophy and then maybe think about the Ballon d’Or. Now it’s no longer in my head.
“Cristiano won the most important competitions, so I think it’s his.”
