Atletico Madrid have confirmed the signing of Sassuolo’s Croatia international defender Sime Vrsaljko on a five-year contract.
Los Colchoneros announced the capture on their official website and the 24-year-old related his contentment at completing the transfer.
“Playing in Atletico is a big challenge for me. I’m very happy,” he is quoted as saying following the switch, said to be worth around €16m.
Vrsaljko spent three seasons in Serie A, two of them at Sassuolo after a year with Genoa, and his arrival we welcomed by sporting director Jose Luis Caminero.
“He’s a player with huge potential, though he has already shown his quality in a League as competitive as Serie A. He fulfils our idea of incorporating players who increase the competition in the group. He’s versatile as he can play both sides, which offers interesting alternatives,” Caminero said.
