Official: Torres signs Atleti deal

Atletico Madrid have announced that Fernando Torres has signed a one-year contract with the club.

A permanent deal for Torres had always been considered a formality, despite reports of a disagreement on its length, with the striker having held out for two years and Los Colchoneros revising their offer down to just the one.

“I’m delighted to stay at my home, it’s the only place where I’ve always wanted to be and finally it’s happened,” he told his boyhood team’s official website.

“I’m happy to be here, I never had doubts about where I wanted to be throughout this process, in which we didn’t know what was going to happen, but ultimately the most important thing is that I achieved what I’d been waiting for.”

The former Liverpool and Chelsea hitman rejoined Atleti on an 18-month loan from Milan in January 2015 and scored 18 goals in that time, 14 of which came last season.
