Juanfran: ‘Turkey not just Arda’

Spain right-back Juanfran has warned his teammates that Friday’s opponents Turkey are not just about Barcelona midfielder Arda Turan.

La Roja take on the Turks in Nice in their second Euro 2016 Group D game and the Atletico Madrid man pointed out that, although Arda disappointed in the 1-0 defeat to Croatia last Sunday, he is still a class act.

However, Juanfran also insists Spain’s opponents do not just rely on his Atletico Madrid colleague.

“I have only good words to say about Arda and on his day he can be very difficult to stop,” he told a Press conference.

“He enjoyed some good years at Atleti and now he is doing it at Barcelona, and it’s our responsibility to make sure he doesn’t get too much possession of the ball, where he is very good.

“His country demands a lot of him, they expect the best, but hopefully he doesn’t have a great game against us.

“But Turkey are not only Arda. “Turkey are a great team when Arda, [Selcuk] Inan, [Hakan] Calhanoglu have the ball, so I don’t think they’ll just go out to defend.”

Juanfran maintains that only a La Roja victory will do as they look to cement a place in the knockout stages of the competition.

“A draw might be a good result for them but for us only a win will do. I’m sure if we show them respect then things will turn out well.

“A draw is no good to us. We have to go for the victory that will give us more confidence to move into the second round.

“We know about the quality of the Turks, how passionate they are, and to them their country comes before anything.

“If we are to be victorious then every single one of us must give our best,” he declared.
