Real Madrid midfielder Luka Modric claims Croatia showed “we’re a great team” after Sunday’s 1-0 victory over Group D rivals Turkey at Euro 2016.
Modric’s first-time volley from outside the box was enough to make the difference at Parc des Princes as Croatia took early charge of their pool ahead of Spain-Czech Republic on Monday.
“We’ve shown that we’re a great team, and we played against great opponents,” he said after the game.
“What I can say is that I hit the ball perfectly, and I must thank God that it turned into a goal.
“I’m happy with both [the goal and win], but more so for victory, which is what matters.
“We still have two very tough games left, the first of them against Czech Republic.
“We can’t be suckered into the euphoria and must have confidence in ourselves.
“We’re still not through, but it was important to win and we did that.”
