Zinedine Zidane has asked Real Madrid to bring Fabio Coentrao back from Monaco and keep him among his squad, reports say.
AS claims Zizou sees Coentrao as the relief for Marcelo that was lacking last season after Portugal international Coentrao was allowed to leave on loan.
Coentrao had what is described by AS as an ‘irregular’ year in the principality, and a muscle injury suffered in April has kept the left-back out of Euro 2016.
There remains a question mark over his fitness as the injury was expected to keep the 28-year-old out for anything from three to six months, but Zidane has spoken in the past of a good working relationship with Coentrao.
Madrid, without a natural left-back to cover Marcelo last year, at various times used Nacho, Alvaro Arbeloa, Danilo and Dani Carvajal to cover for the Brazilian.
