Vazquez: Spain lacked motivation

Lucas Vazquez admits Spain lacked motivation in Tuesday’s shock 1-0 defeat to Georgia, their final match before Euro 2016.

Georgia capitalised on a momentary loss of concentration from the Spain defence to inflict La Roja’s first defeat since March 2015, and Vazquez – who debuted for his country as their No 9 – feels La Roja can ill-afford to ignore the result, despite its friendly nature.

“I’m very happy for my debut, it’s a prize for me to be here,” the Real Madrid winger said after the game.

“Wearing the No 9 shirt is an honour, but it’s only a number. There’s no pressure.

“In today’s football, any opponent can beat you. This defeat must serve to motivate us more.

“We must treat this defeat as an error before Euro 2016 so we can start [the tournament] as best we can.”
