Gabi Fernandez is adamant Atletico Madrid “will bounce back to win a Champions League” following their defeat to Real Madrid in Saturday’s final.
Atleti failed to avenge their loss at Lisbon 2014 as a 1-1 draw after 120 minutes in Milan was followed by a 5-3 reverse on penalties, Juanfran missing the fateful spot-kick, but Gabi was convinced his side were getting closer to a first European cup as opposed to it drifting away from them.
“It’s important that we were here, and I’m convinced that this team will bounce back to win a Champions League because they deserve it,” the captain told Los Colchoneros’ official website.
“We must be proud of this team. As of tomorrow, we’ll keep working. This is the beauty and cruelty of football.”
