Perez: Ronaldo here forever

Real Madrid President Florentino Perez wants Cristiano Ronaldo at the club ‘forever’ and says Zinedine Zidane ‘changed history.’

Zidane was on the bench as Madrid beat Atletico Madrid on penalties in the Champions League Final, having won as a player in 2001 and Carlo Ancelotti’s assistant in 2014, also against Atletico.

“Zidane, for me, for Madrid and its history, has been very important. He changed history in 2001, he’s won it as a player, an assistant and the Coach. He said to me the same thing as in 2001: ‘I got it,’” Perez revealed, AS reports.

“I’d like to dedicate this trophy to our fans in Iraq. They’re in my heart. That terrible act means some have to do more to support Madrid. The values of Madrid arrive in very difficult places.

“All seasons are tough but we fought to the end. In La Liga, when we needed a point…I don’t want to talk about other issues, I just want to speak about the Champions League. La Liga is very difficult. We’ve fought. I won’t say more. We had a good League. And we had a good European Cup.

“I’m proud to be President of Madrid, for its fans, its history and these great players. I would like to dedicate a few words to Atletico, our neighbour and friend. In the last few years they’ve shown their level.

“The Champions League, the European Cup, is in our DNA. Since we founded it with L’Equipe, it’s the most important for us. It’s the most important in the world. Ramos? He’s a phenomenon. I want to thank him publically.

“I guess we won’t renew Ronaldo next week because of Euro 2016. I want him to stay here forever because he’s one of the pillars of the club and is part of history. Madrid with Cristiano marks a point in time.”
