Torres: Final my most important game

Fernando Torres describes the Atletico Madrid-Real Madrid Champions League Final as ‘the most important game of my life.’

Torres returned to Atleti in 2015 after spells at Liverpool, Chelsea and Milan, winning the European Cup with the Blues, and admitted in an interview with Bein Sports that he gambled by going back to Vicente Calderon.

“I knew what I was risking by coming back. A lot of people thought I couldn’t get better. But I was sure of the group I was joining. I knew this group was heading for something big and I wanted to be part of it,” he explained, AS reports.

“This final is the most important game of my life. An opportunity to write a page that isn’t written in the 13-year history of Atletico. I have the chance to fulfil a childhood dream, which was to win with this club.”

Atletico were beaten by Madrid in the 2014 final, before Torres returned, and while he believes the pain of the defeat could help this year’s team, he insists the focus is not on two years ago.

“The past can only help you be better. We’re only thinking about Milan, which is the present,” he added.
