Pique: Madrid have movies, Barca have trophies

Gerard Pique has suggested Barcelona are more focused on winning than Real Madrid. ‘They can have their movies, we’ll add trophies to the museum.’

The defender appeared at a Press conference on Wednesday, discussing the Copa del Rey Final, rumours of a spat with Espanyol players and the season as a whole.

“I’d say it was very good. Winning the League is remarkable. If we add everything else, it will be excellent. We’ve won the League and we have to add to it,” he said, AS reports.

“We’d take the double every year. We’ll congratulate Madrid if they win the Champions League. Everyone makes their way from the beginning and conclusions are drawn at the end.

“Madrid can have their films. We’ll add trophies to the museum. I don’t know if they’re frustrated, but the same team always winning isn’t very interesting. People want new idols. A hegemony like that isn’t interesting. I hope we keep winning until I hang up the boots.

“We’ve become a winning team and people ask a lot of you. That’s normal. The desire to win the title is the same as ever. Winning six titles out of eight is brutal. Difference between Barca and Madrid? I don’t know. We’re the team that’s won more. I suppose that’s the talent of the players. Now it’s in our favour and then it can be them. It’s hard to have so much talent at Barca.”

Pique added that clinching La Liga gives the team encouragement for the Copa del Rey and doesn’t think Sevilla’s Europa League commitments will be a factor, with Unai Emery resting his players before the game against Liverpool.

“I don’t think the final will affect them. They’ll have days off and they’ve had weeks with without playing. We have to play our game and if we do, we’ll have options,” he continued.

“Kevin Gameiro is an important player and does better when he’s with Vicente Iborra. They have good players and a Coach who Ivan Rakitic says is obsessed with set-pieces. We’re in a similar situation from the summer. We’ve both been faithful to our team.”

Pique also touched on the story that alleged he and Espanyol’s Burgui had a row after Barca’s title parade, and added he didn’t recall impersonating Cristiano Ronaldo while on the open-top bus tour.

“Burgui has denied it. We met the Espanyol players and we were talking, relaxed,” he confirmed.

“Burgui, Gerard [Moreno], Pau Lopez…there are serious journalists and not serious, but there should be serious analysis. If the line is to publish the first thing you get…”
