Paco ‘first to take responsibility’

Paco Jemez has insisted that he is “the first” to take responsibility for Rayo Vallecano’s difficult season ahead of survival Sunday against Levante.

Paco’s players came under fire for their performance against Real Sociedad last weekend as they were accused of throwing their trip to Anoeta, which ended 2-1 to the Basques, leaving the side a point adrift of La Liga safety going into their final game.

The Coach was predictably put the question about his team’s integrity at a Press conference, and he explained: “My players are professionals, and they need to get away from everything that has happened this week and try to win.

“We have to give a good account of ourselves and show we deserve to win.

“What’s important is that from the beginning of the game, we feel the warmth of our fans.

“Levante are playing for pride and will play with a lot of heart, but we’re fighting the possibility of staying up.

“We’ve done many things wrong, me being the first [to have done so]. We’ve been more wrong than we’d have liked.

“For my part, I’m most responsible for what’s happened, but we each assume our share of the responsibility.

“We’re only going to worry about winning our game and nothing else.

“I know that there are no suspicions of anything [among my players]. I fully trust them all.

“It can happen that we’re relegated to La Segunda, or it may not. Either way, we must leave the game with our heads held high.

“I understand that Marcelino spoke from the heart. What’s unfortunate is the moment in which he said it.

“The board were with us [on Saturday] and we could all see that we were one, all together.

“I need to sit down with all the people who have a voice in our project in the coming season to see everything clearly.

“[On sporting director Felipe Minambres possibly leaving], I’d like to continue working with Felipe Minambres, who has shown to be a great professional.”
